While travelers and excavators called the monastery St. Simeon, older Arabic and Coptic experts called it Anba Hatre (Hidra, Hadri, Hadra), when a United Nations eremite agency consecrated a bishop of Syene (now Aswan) by Patriarch Theophilus (385-412 AD).
Your tour guide will come to your hotel or Nile cruise in Aswan and take you to the St. Simoen Monestery, which is situated across from the southernmost point of Elephantine Island.
The monastery is enclosed by tall walls and was constructed on two levels. There are remnants of frescoes in the basilica, and not far away is the room where St. Simeon prayed with his beard fastened to the ceiling in case he nodded off.
St Simeon is the name that travelers and archaeologists gave to the monastery. After the trip, you'll get to ride on a camel before being transferred to your hotel or Nile cruise at Aswan.
