Since years ago, savvy divers have been traveling to Marsa Alam, drawn by the waters that provide some of Egypt’s best diving right off the rocky coast. In spite of this, the remote location remained largely unnoticed by travelers for an extended period. The strip of beachfront to the town’s north and south has been snatched up by eager developers, who have turned it into a multitude of half-built hotels and resorts, while the town itself is still a sleepy, unremarkable place.
